Critque

My concentration is: Storytelling through the Cinematic Arts.
I apologize if you cannot read all of the text. Please let me know where you have difficulty reading or what part of the story you want to talk about by citing the panel(s) (example: I Like this (panels 1-6) because...)

  1. I don't know much about the filmmaking process, but I really like your figures and the consistency of your style. If I could say one thing, I would say that you could push your piece a bit farther with some backgrounds/scenery behind the figures. I think you would create even more interest with each scene, and the depth would give your piece a more realistic, thoughtful quality. But that's just my opinion. You're doing great!

  2. To me, the fact that you can turn storyboards like this into a movie is really amazing (also, I am totally ignorant about how it works - OMG moving pictures!!!!! - so it seems a bit like magic). You do a really great job of keeping the story flowing visually, so that someone looking at the storyboard can "read" the plot. I agree with Allie that the consistency of your images is great - keeps the characters from getting mixed up - but I don't think you really need backgrounds for this. The panels are so small that adding stuff in would make them incomprehensible.

Something to look into, if you ever want to try something different from animation, is wordless illustration - novels without words. There was a book I read once - I can't remember the actual title, I think it had "Hugo" in it - where every other chapter was done totally in pictures. Like chapter one was written like all books are, but then chapter two advanced the plot by visually showing what was going on instead of describing it to the readers. If you feel confident in your writing abilities - or you know people who are, and who wouldn't mind partnering with you - I think it would be really cool to see what you could do. You have a really great talent to tell stories with pictures, and I don't think you should limit yourself to movies.

  3. This is great! Nice ending. It was cool, because you were like the big thing at scholastic because you were the only one with an animation. (I'm sure you already knew that) But it was great either way, so kudos.
